28 Dec

KateUpdates 2013

How will 2013 be different from 2012?

What goals are you setting for your health and fitness?

What steps will you take to be better, happier and stronger?

How will you let your light SHINE?

What do you need to get rid of?

What do you need to let go?

How will you positively impact others?

What steps are taking to be extraordinary in 2013?

These are just some of the questions I’m pondering as the new year approaches. I’m committed to making this year remarkable. Let’s change our lives this year, ok?

5 Tools to Reset Your Diet After Holiday Eating + Meet My New BFF!

27 Dec

Whew. It’s been about a week since I last updated you and … I’ve missed you! I loved having some time to “unplug” and used the time to plan and recharge for 2013. This next year is totally going to blow the last one out of the water so get ready …

So are you ready to get back into your healthy routine after all that holiday eating? I so am! I took a break over the holidays and I’m really looking forward to feeling completely myself again. If you normally eat Paleo, you know exactly what I mean. When you eat gluten, dairy or other not-so-good-for-you foods, your body gets really disoriented.

My body went through the shock of, “What the heck are you feeding me??” and then settled into, “I guess this is how we are eating again … ” soon followed by, “Can we go back to eating Paleo please?” The good news is that I don’t feel guilty from eating the way I did because I made up my mind before hand that this was a planned break. I am ready to get back into my groove and be even more passionate about cooking at home and working out. Here are 5 resources you can use to get back on track:

  1. 10 Tips to Get Back on Track after holiday eating
  2. Beat temptation with these: 5 Tips to Defeat the Cravings Monster
  3. Use these Meal Planning Ideas to jump-start your diet (plus there’s 43 healthy blog options for you to review!)
  4. And how about 10 Reasons to Eat Clean and Workout
  5. Oh and I strongly urge you to consider doing the Whole30 after the holidays are completely over. It will change your life.

This leads me to my two favorite Christmas gifts this year … (and my new BFF!)

KateUpdates Food Procesor

A rosemary bush and a FOOD PROCESSOR. Ohmygosh I’m so excited!! I have been wanting a food processor for a while and Daniel and I started pricing them out but they were just SO expensive we couldn’t quite commit. Enter my mom. She totally surprised and blessed me with this AMAZING gift. I can do so much more with well, everything. You guys are going to reap the benefits too because I’m going to be sharing many more recipes.

Woohoo!

What was your favorite Christmas gift?

Musical Monday: Workin’ it Like a BOSS.

10 Dec

KateUpdates Like a Boss
The past few weeks have been pretty busy for me. I’ve been doing a lot of introspection and I’m attempting to figure out where I want to transition to career-wise … I’ve really been enjoying the journey so far and I think I’ve almost got it figured out (for now). I actually just started public relations and social media consulting again and I have my first client :) (!!!) So that’s pretty sweet. OK it’s really sweet.
I’m working on several projects so I want to give you a preview into what you can expect over the next few weeks …
  • More recipes. If you’ve noticed less frequent recipe highlights it’s simply because I haven’t been cooking as much. I’ve been sticking to staples that I’ve already shared with you because I’ve been busy. The good news is I’m back in the kitchen as of tonight so I’ll have some yumminess to share with you very soon.
  • A Paleo Christmas cookie round-up. Similar to my Thanksgiving round-up but more delicious because it’s dessert.
  • Cross-fit & Yoga– I’m just beginning this but my plan is to complete daily workouts in the AM M-Sat. A friend shared an amazing resource with me that you should definitely check out. It’s called BodeeFit. Why do I love it? Because they send you daily workouts (with videos!!), a weekly Paleo recipe and it’s by one of my *favorite* Paleo bloggers: PaleOMG. I want to really press into the whole yoga thing this week. We’ll see how it goes …
  • Launching a website. This will be a professional site for my public relations and social media business. I still need to think of a name so if you have ideas, send them my way.
  • Moving my blog so that it’s self-hosted (more details TBA) – I’m almost positive I’ll be making the move from a WordPress.com to a WordPress.org site. Basically, I’ll have more control over the resources I can offer when you stop in and I’m going to beef up the comments section to make it easier for us to interact.
  • YouTube – I’m going to be making some how-to videos about eating Paleo and more. I’m realizing that not everyone has read/learned about Paleo and some videos on it might be good. I’m really excited to share them with you! They’re coming soon so watch for them.
  • Blog Tips and Social Media tools – I’ll be coming out with Pt. 2 of my blogging series soon (you thought I forgot didn’t you …) I’ll also share some social media tools to make your life easier.

Oh and since it’s Musical Monday, here’s my current running mix:
