What I Learned from Chopped: PLUS Peak into My Grocery Basket :)

As demonstrated by yesterday’s recipe, I like to keep things simple in the kitchen. I haven’t been cooking very long and I’ve often joked about making a cook book that only uses a few ingredients … maybe one day. But in the meantime, I’ve been inspired by some of the recipes I’ve seen in my favorite cookbooks to do a little more experimenting.

I’m feeling invigorated at the prospect of trying some new things and creating a unique recipe or two. Maybe that’s because I’ve been watching a lot of Chopped lately? Yeah, that definitely part of it. Have you watched that show lately? It’s so awesome to see what they come up with in such short amounts of time! They really only use a few ingredients and then some spices and they make recipes in a very short amount of time.

Last night I was thinking that if I just pretend that I’m on Chopped while in the kitchen, things could get really creative and meals might even get done faster. How’s that for TV education? It really is a great show to keep in mind when you’re due for a shopping  trip and running low on ingredients or if you have a short amount of time to prepare a meal.

Anyway, I’m going to experiment with a few things (well, I’m hoping to and we’ll see how much of this actually happens lol):

  • A meatball variation
  • Kale Chips (this will be the first time making them — I’ve talked about it before but haven’t done it yet!)
  • Sweet potato chips
  • Stuffed peppers
  • Stuffed mushrooms
  • Homemade sauces/dips
  • Balsamic Short Rib
  • Zucchini noodles
  • Woah! Can you tell I’m feeling ambitious??

I will share recipes as they come together … How fun! Let me know if you’ve got a favorite recipe for any of the above ideas because I’d love to try it!

And with that, take a peak into this week’s grocery basket! I share these to give you ideas and as a reference for myself in the future. I only spent $104 and this should last more than a week. There are some items not shown because they’re Daniel’s and therefore not Paleo 🙂

You know what would be fun? Snap a picture of your grocery trip and share it with the KateUpdates community on Facebook. That would be completely cool!!
