Thought of the Day: Comparison is the Thief of Joy

Thought of the Day

I’ve been thinking about a lot of things lately and I’ll share them with you gradually so that we can focus our attention and work through each issue together. Today I want to talk about what other people think about me and you.

OK maybe it’s just me we’re talking about here … but I’m not convinced. It seems like we all struggle with comparison to some degree: in business, socially, economically, appearance, accomplishments and on. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in what others think or compare ourselves in some way to those around us – especially those we look up to.

The problem with this, is that it takes the focus off of our goals and can create fear (which I’ll talk more about later), which may, if we’re not careful, immobilize us to inaction and a wasted life. I don’t mean to sound dismal but I do want to make this point: It does not matter what other people are doing when it comes to your goals and your life.

It just doesn’t. It doesn’t matter what they think about what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Looking back on your life, you’re not going to remember the things other people did, you’ll look at what you accomplished, who you were and who you impacted. Did you make a difference?

So let everything else fade away and don’t let the opinions of others weigh you down or even dim your light in the slightest bit. Go for it! Break free and let today be the day that makes all others seem boring. Today is your day.
