Is Excess Keeping You from Achieving Your Goals?

11 Feb

KateUpdates Make it Happen

I love Mondays. I’ll admit I haven’t always liked them but the past couple years have taught me to see Mondays as the springboard for each new week. Mondays are a new beginning, a fresh start and, to me, they hold the most potential of any day in the week. So, I love Mondays.

On this momentous day, I wanted to share a thought with you that may sound a little funny but stick with me and it will make sense. This is it: Is excess holding you back? Is having too much of a “good” thing keeping you from achieving your goals?

Excess can come in the form of …

  • Too much work
  • Too much play
  • Too much sugar
  • Too much sleep
  • Too much snacking
  • Too much alone time
  • Too much time with people
  • Too much social media time
  • Too much structure
  • Too much free-time
  • Too much … too much!

Are you living a lifestyle of ‘too much’ in certain areas? Is it time for you to practice discipline, diminishing excess, to free yourself and achieve your goals? Even a good thing, when turned to excess, can become destructive. It’s like the saying goes, “‘Everything is permissible’–but not everything is beneficial. ‘Everything is permissible’–but not everything is constructive.” I Cor. 10:23

If an activity, habit or lack thereof is keeping you from accomplishing your goals, maybe it’s time to reevaluate the time and attention you’re giving to that thing/activity/person.

Just a little food for thought …

It’s Friday! Let’s Have Dessert (with a side of thanks)

8 Feb

Hello beautiful people!

How was your week been? If you’re a fan of my Facebook page, you saw that I shared an image that says exactly how I feel: Thankful.

I’m off to a running start with my new business and I’m meeting with some amazing brands, learning so much and being brave every day. I was going to talk to you about fear this week but I’m just feeling to happy to do that right now. Instead, let’s have dessert! 😉

I’ve uncovered some AMAZING recipes this week and I’m going to make at least one of them this weekend. I wasn’t really craving dessert but after looking at these pictures, I’ve changed my mind.

OH and the very last recipe is SUPER fun because my friend Kara made it. *Go Kara!*

So, here’s a sweet start to your weekend. Enjoy!

Kara’s Ice Cream Cookies

This last recipe is a fun one. My friend Kara, who was a major influence in my starting to eat Paleo, made this for her husband’s birthday a couple weeks ago. It was really yummy! Here’s what she says about this recipe:
Kara’s Ice Cream Cookies
  • The Cookies were made using these recipe.
  • The ice cream recipe is adapted from this Roasted-Strawberry Coconut Milk Ice Cream recipe (which is amazing!)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/3 c natural cane sugar (I used coconut sugar) (would probably work with honey)
  • 3 Tbsp. Maple syrup
  • 1 13.5 oz can coconut milk
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3-4 drops peppermint essential oils
Directions: Set a glass bowl over a pot of simmering water, but do not let the bowl touch the water. Add the egg yolks and both sugars and stir to warm. As the sugar melts, it will become smooth and shiny. If these two need a bit of help melting, just add a spoonful of the coconut milk to get things moving along. Stir the mixture for about 5 minutes. Add the can of coconut milk and whisk everything to combine. As everything warms, it will get smoother. The custard will start to thicken just a bit. Stir in the vanilla, turn off the heat, strain through a fine strainer to remove any eggs bits and transfer the bowl to the fridge to cool completely.

Add peppermint essential oils.

Add the coconut custard to your ice cream maker and churn according to instructions.

What an Average Paleo Day Looks Like (VIDEO)

5 Feb

I made another video for you! Lately, people have been asking about what exactly I eat throughout the week and on a daily basis. What does a typical day look like? Well, this post will explore just that. You may be surprised to find that I’m a pretty boring eater in that I like to eat the same things often. For example, I’m perfectly content with eating eggs, bacon and shredded sweet potato hash browns for breakfast, every day, for a week. Some of you won’t want to do that. You’ll need to mix it up more.

I also am a big fan of leftovers because that means I don’t have to make a new meal every single day. When you’re eating unprocessed food that is gluten/dairy/soy free that means you’re making most of your meals. So, leftovers can be a real time-saver. That’s where my slow cooker comes in! I can make meals that last for days with my slow cooker.

I’ve mentioned before that I like to keep things simple and under 8 ingredients whenever possible. That means that most of the recipes I make are super easy and not very time-consuming. I’m not a chef and I have no aspirations to be one.

All that said, I mention a couple recipes in the below video, which are listed here:
