Is Excess Keeping You from Achieving Your Goals?

11 Feb

KateUpdates Make it Happen

I love Mondays. I’ll admit I haven’t always liked them but the past couple years have taught me to see Mondays as the springboard for each new week. Mondays are a new beginning, a fresh start and, to me, they hold the most potential of any day in the week. So, I love Mondays.

On this momentous day, I wanted to share a thought with you that may sound a little funny but stick with me and it will make sense. This is it: Is excess holding you back? Is having too much of a “good” thing keeping you from achieving your goals?

Excess can come in the form of …

  • Too much work
  • Too much play
  • Too much sugar
  • Too much sleep
  • Too much snacking
  • Too much alone time
  • Too much time with people
  • Too much social media time
  • Too much structure
  • Too much free-time
  • Too much … too much!

Are you living a lifestyle of ‘too much’ in certain areas? Is it time for you to practice discipline, diminishing excess, to free yourself and achieve your goals? Even a good thing, when turned to excess, can become destructive. It’s like the saying goes, “‘Everything is permissible’–but not everything is beneficial. ‘Everything is permissible’–but not everything is constructive.” I Cor. 10:23

If an activity, habit or lack thereof is keeping you from accomplishing your goals, maybe it’s time to reevaluate the time and attention you’re giving to that thing/activity/person.

Just a little food for thought …

What’s In My Grocery Basket: 1.13.13

13 Jan

Well, by now you can probably tell that I like to experiment with new ideas. Whether it’s documenting what I wear every day for a month, stretching myself to 30 day challenges or building my own website, I like variety and experimenting with ideas. Sometimes they stick and sometimes I toss them out to make way for others.

Well, earlier this week someone commented on my Youtube page and asked what a typical day looks like when it comes to how I eat. So, I started thinking about doing another video for you guys (which I’ll share in the coming weeks) but I also had an idea yesterday that I want to try. I’m going to start sharing my grocery basket with you every time I shop. I’ll share a photo of the contents, a detailed list and maybe even some recipe ideas.

I’ve said it before, I like keeping things simple yet tasty. I don’t mind eating leftovers, in fact, I think they’re super smart because they’re convenient. All that to say, this bunch of groceries may not look like much but I’m creative in how I use each element.

I’ll go over more details later in my video but for now, look for this Sunday post in the future where you can get ideas for your own shopping basket. Feel free to share what’s in your basket via my Facebook page so I can see what’s in your basket, too!Image

  • 1 carton of dried fruit and nuts (I pop a handful of these if I’m hungry before a meal to tide me over until it’s done cooking!)
  • 1 individual serving of Naked juice (that lasts the week for me)
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 2 avocados
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 pack of Baby Bella mushrooms (I add these to eggs, sweet potatoes, chicken, green beans and more!)
  • 1 head of iceberg lettuce (we like this with taco meat)
  • 1 lb of all natural, nitrate-free bacon
  • 1 London Broil steak (I’m going to try a NEW recipe with this in a couple days)
  • 1 lb ground beef (I add seasoning to this and combine it with shredded sweet potato or cauliflower puree for lunches)
  • 2 cartons of eggs (I’ll make them for breakfast, hard boil some and maybe try making mayo this week)
  • 1 32 oz. Jug of All natural maple syrup
  • 1 container of gummy vitamins (this may not be Paleo but I like them)
  • 2 Organic Granny Smith Apples
  • 1 Pomegranate
  • 1 Large bag of ready to cook green beans
  • 2 2lb bags of chicken breasts (they were on sale so I’ll use one and freeze the other)
  • 3 Naval oranges
  • 6 Lara Bars (they’re great for on the go)

There you go! What do you think?

What is Paleo? How Do You Do It and What Does it Mean?

7 Jan

Happy Monday!

I’m often asked about the way I eat; what is it, how do you do it and what’s on the eat and foods to avoid list. So, I decided to make a video discussing the Paleo Diet. Eating Paleo is something that has dramatically impacted my life for the better. It’s something that makes me feel better, stronger and happier. I’m at my best when I’m strictly eating Paleo. It’s much more than just avoiding gluten, diary or added sugar. So take a few minutes to check out this video. If you aren’t currently eating Paleo, I strongly encourage you to look into it more and then just dive in!

To jump start your Paleo experience and “reset” your system, I’d highly recommend doing the Whole30 first. I’ll share a video on my experience in doing the Whole30 later this week so stay tuned.

I hope you enjoy the video and feel free to leave questions in the comments or join my Facebook Page to get daily Paleo inspiration, recipes and resources.
